AHEPA Empire State District 6 in conjunction with the East Mediterranean Business Cultural Alliance presented the Inaugural Seraphim Canoutas Lecture Series - “We Are All Greeks” - March 25, 1821 Hellenes and Philhellenes in the War of Independence at the 3 West Club in Manhattan.
AHEPA Empire State District Governor Ted Stamas began the evening by welcoming all attendees and commenting on the significance of the lecture series. He introduced Supreme Governor Tom Dushas who read President Trump’s recent Greek Independence Day statement. The Consul General of Greece in New York, Dr. Konstantinos Koutras, offered his remarks on Greek Independence Day and George Paralemos represented Governor Andrew Cuomo, who was unable to attend the event. This was a wonderful event, co-hosted by AHEPA Delphi Chapter # 25, delivered to a standing room only audience !
Opera singer Demetrios Jussi Tsinopoulos sang “O Gheros Demos” from the opera Markos Botsaris by Pavlos Karrer. He was accompanied by Pavlos Kordis on keyboard.
The Seraphim Canoutas Lectures began with AHEPA District 6 Director of Civic Responsibility Brother Peter Giakoumis on The Legacy of General Yiannis Makriyiannis. It concluded with AHEPA District 6 Director of Hellenism Brother Lou Katsos on Hellenes and Philhellenes in the War of Independence. Both presentations were riveting.
